Scott Distasio discusses medication errors committed by pharmacies.

Some Information About Pharmacy Malpractice in Florida

According to the Food and Drug Administration as many as 1.3 million people per year are injured by medication errors. One of the most common types of medication errors involves a pharmacy prescription error.

To make sure you are not a victim, whenever, your doctor prescribes you a new medicine, make sure you tell the doctor all the other medication, dietary supplements and herbal preparations you are taking. That way the doctor can make sure the new medicine will not have any adverse interaction with the ones you are already taking.

Ask your doctor the name of the drug, dose of the drug, and number of times per day the drug should be taken. Also, ask the doctor what the medicine looks like. Write it down.

When the pharmacy gives you the prescription, compare it to what the doctor said. Open the bottle and check the medicine inside to see if it matches the doctor’s prescription. If any of the information is different than what your doctor told you, show the pharmacist. If the explanation given does not make sense, call your doctor.
