Some Information About Case Settlement Timelines
Everyone wants to know how long it will take to resolve their case. Unfortunately, there is really no way to answer that question because each case is different. The length of time it takes depends on factors like how quickly your injuries can be diagnosed, whether you need future medical care, and whether the party we believe is responsible, admits their wrongdoing.
Many times you do not want to resolve your case until these things are resolved. The insurance company is simply not going to pay for things that either have not happened or there is no way to accurately predict they will happen in the future.
If the injuries have been diagnosed, you do not need much future medical care, and the negligence of the at fault party is pretty clear, the case may be resolved rather quickly. But many times, the injuries can’t be diagnosed quickly. For example, it can take 4 to 6 months to diagnose the cause of neck or back pain. Even after the injuries have been diagnosed, you may need substantial ongoing medical care. For example, if you need neck or back surgery, it may not make sense to resolve your case until after the surgery has been performed and you have fully recovered.
The longest cases to resolve are are often those cases that involve disputes about who was responsible. So as you can see, the law firm is often not in control of when your case will resolve. It is our job to make sure that when your case is ready we will be ready too
