Scott Distasio speaks about the statistics related to motorcycle accidents.
Some Information About Motorcycle Accidents in Florida
The number of motorcycle riders that have died in motorcycle accidents more than doubled from 1997 to 2006. In fact the National Highway Safety Administration claims that motorcycle riders are 35 times more likely to die in an accident than a person riding in a car. Statistics like these make many people think that motorcyclists are reckless drivers. The truth is their not. Sure you see some reckless motorcycle drivers just like you see some reckless car drivers. But overall, motorcycle riders are some of the safest drivers on the road. Some estimates are that 70% of accidents involving a motorcycle and a car were caused by the car driver.
When we represent a motorcycle driver, the first thing we do is take a detailed statement from our client and any witnesses. We then compare their recollections to the police officers description of the scene. Most of the time we can piece together what happened. Many times we are able to prove just what the statistics bare out. That the motorcycle rider was not at fault.
